Impossible for me to give you all the details for an update on Stefan Marinoiu, the father on a hunger strike at Queen's Park. I was down there with him on Tuesday and Wednesday, then again today.

Stefan has asked for the following from our government:

(1) The waitlist must be eliminated by November 1, (2) There must be ABA in schools, (3) They need to work with Ottawa to develop a national autism strategy and get more funding for Ontario and (4) Therapists need to be regulated.

Stefan asked the MCYS staffers that if the government can't do these things, then he wants them to do one thing only which is for the Premier to come out on Tuesday to tell the families and the public that he won't help our children. Today, Stefan asked me to promise him that I will make sure to ask everyone I know to come down on Tuesday morning to show support. He asked everyone who visited him today to promise him that they would try to bring as many families that they can with them. This is a father of a 15 year old boy with autism who has never received IBI/ABA. Stefan is starving himself outside the legislative building for his child and our children too. He said to me that this is it and there will not be a next time so we need everyone to be there on Tuesday.

The details for Tuesday are being worked on and I'm sure that there will be more information to share over the next day or so but I wanted to give all of you a heads-up now. Please try to make every effort to attend and encourage everyone else you know to come down also.

Hello,

Firstly I want to thank Everyone for joining this group and supporting my father and other families of autistic children in Canada.

For those of you who don't know Autism is defined as:

a pervasive developmental disorder of children, characterized by impaired communication, excessive rigidity, and emotional detachment.

Now, for those of you who don't know me or my family, or my father, I have an autistic brother named Simon who is functional, but cannot communicate through the English Language and also has a very little amount of social skills.

Simon is now 15 years old, and is getting older and stronger as he grows. The truth is that there are thousands of more families across Canada who have autistic children, and still, no one has found the exact cause of the disorder.

I have formed this group in order to bring together everyone for another drastic measure my father has taken.

Today, May 5 2008, my father declared the official beginning of his hunger strike in the name of Autism.
That is right, the same man who walked from Toronto to Ottawa at the beginning of February this year, has officially declared a hunger strike.

He did not specify his terms on which he will end, but my father is most definitely not satisfied with Dalton McGuinty and his broken promises. He is also NOT satisfied with the 15 minutes that Mr. Tony Clement, our current federal minister of Health, decided to "spare".

My father is 49 years old, and is also a type 2 diabetic. I am proud of him and his commitment, but I need YOUR help.

My father;
a) Holding his hunger strike outside of Queen's Park.
b) Is a type 2 diabetic
and...
c) Refuses to end until something is achieved.


In making this group, I, his daughter, Lia Marinoiu, am asking for YOUR help.

There are senators and media who want to promote this story in order to ensure my father's walk isn't being done without proper attention.

SO I AM ASKING YOU TO:

a) Let EVERYONE YOU KNOW around Ontario about my father and his Strike before the effects of hunger take a massive toll on him.

b) Contact as much media as you can, call your MPPs and MPs about it. I've done everything I can to promote this, I just need more help and people on board with me, my family, and the families of autistic children.

He has officially begun his hunger strike at Queen's Park.

He is on this strike alone.
